چکیده
Abstract Background Giant hiatus hernias (GHH), defined as more than 30% of the stomach herniating into chest cavity accounts for 5%-10% all hernias. GHH repair is undertaken electively in symptomatic patients, to prevent complications such volvulus with resultant mortality. Advances laparoscopy and perioperative care have reduced risk operation, improvement quality life (QoL) has become an important outcome measure. “Quality Life Reflux Dyspepsia” (QOLRAD) questionnaire a disease specific validated tool used assess QoL. We present our prospective data assessing change QoL following repair. Methods Symptomatic patients undergoing elective GHH, by single surgical team, between January 2010 June 2021 were identified from prospectively kept database. Demographic operative details recorded patient notes. From 2015 onwards QOLRAD was introduced. Patients who underwent completed pre-operatively then at 6 weeks, months, 1 year 2 years post-operatively. Patients, not operated on, month intervals over years. Mann-Whitney U test compare scores hernia size, type symptomatology. Results Sixty-eight 2014. Statistically significant(p < 0.001) only seen ‘heartburn’ symptoms. Thirty included post group. significant domains observed demonstrated table below. Conclusions safe operation that results across may deterioration

Surgical Repair of Giant Type IV Hiatal Hernia
In this case report, we described a 74-year-old female patient with major complaint of respiratory problemsdyspnea after meal. Chest X-ray of the patient revealed a gianttype IV hiatal hernia. Preoperative evaluations of the patient included esophagoscopy, esophageal manometry, barium swallow, and CT-scan. Repair of the hernia was performed using a dual mesh on the diaphragm and partial anteri...
متن کاملHiatus Hernia Repair with Bilateral Oesophageal Fixation
Background. Despite advances in surgical repair of hiatus hernias, there remains a high radiological recurrence rate. We performed a novel technique incorporating bilateral oesophageal fixation and evaluated outcomes, principally symptom improvement and hernia recurrence. Methods. A retrospective study was performed on a prospective database of patients undergoing hiatus hernia repair with bila...

An 85-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of vomiting. An upper gastrointestinal series what showed a large esophageal hiatus hernia, suggesting an association with extrinsic pressure in the middle portion of the stomach. An upper gastrointestinal endoscopic examination showed severe esophagitis and a prominent narrowing in the middle portion of the stomach, however, it showed n...

The diaphragm is a sheet of muscle that separates the lungs from the abdomen. When a person takes a deep breath, the dome-shaped diaphragm contracts and flattens. In doing this, the diaphragm pulls air into the lungs. The left diaphragm contains a small hole through which passes the tube-shaped esophagus that carries food and liquid to the stomach. Normally this hole, called a hiatus, is small ...
متن کاملLaparoscopic repair of paraesophageal hiatus hernia in infancy
Paraesophageal hiatus hernia (PEHH) is an uncommon type of diaphragmatic hernia in the pediatric age group. Two patients aged 5-months and 8-months presented with respiratory symptoms and underwent a laparoscopic repair. Preoperative assessment included chest x-ray and CT scan. We suggest that laparoscopic repair of PEHH in infants is safe and preferred mode of the treatment.
